I am going to have my master bath totally gutted and I will design a new master bath in my house. My husband and I have lived in the house for 12 years, knowing that we would redo it one day. It is a 1985 bathroom with very little space other than what a toilet, double vanity, small jacuzzi tub, and a tiny shower take up. Aside from the outdated fixtures and design, there is a "plastic" shower, vinyl flooring, and laminate countertops. The jacuzzi looks like it should be in a hospital!
With postings to my Done in a Day Decorating blog, I am going to take you through the process of designing a new bathroom.
We live in beautiful neighborhood of houses in excess of 3200 sq. feet. Our bathroom is very small compared to most in the neighborhood and our "child" bedrooms are on the small side too. When we sell the house there will need to be compelling reasons for someone to give up the bedroom space and choose our house over others. An updated NEUTRAL master bath could be just one of the one of the reasons. We've been working on other "reasons" in our living areas.
The first thing you need to do when creating a new bathroom is to list your basic goals. Here are mine:
I have determined by measuring that I cannot change the floor plan of the bathroom. I know it would be very expensive to expland the bathroom into a closet behind it. I've decide to expand the shower forward by about a foot towards the window.
Before I go to any store to make choices and involve sales people's time, I need to come up with ideas for what I want the finished bathroom to look like. For this I will go to my cut up magazines, designer magazine websites, and to Better Homes and Garden's Design Inspirations website www.decoratinginspiration.com,
