Final Bathroom Renovation - Part One

The bathroom is complete and has been for a few months. Since I have not blogged, I have been keeping people in suspense!

I chose some really nice medicine cabinets by Robern that are six inches deep. They were worth every penny! The inside cabinet door and the inside back are fully mirrored with glass shelves. I even have electricity inside the mirrors so I can store my plugged-in hair dryer and my electric toothbrush out of view. I love them! I am still looking for the perfect thing to hang on the wall between them.

The cabinets are cherry and have funiture "legs" that coordinate with furniture in the bedroom. I chose the stain color to look at home with the three different finishes I have in the master bedroom -- oak, pine, and cherry.

For the plumbing fixtures and towel bars I went with all polished nickel. As a decorator, I have been dreaming about them for years. Yes, they need more care than a stainless finish, but that means not using anything abrasive to clean them, and applying a polish every six weeks or so. You will notice I went traditional, but I purposely chose a tall faucet and handle for an interesting look.

I went for a claw foot tub by Victoria and Albert. The bathroom is small for a master, and there was not much space for a big tub. The old built-in Jacuzzi tub looked like it belonged in a hospital and there was not enough room for two people, especially since one side had a faucet sticking out of it! We moved the plumbing to the other wall and I found the widest tub I could for the space. You can fit two people in, though maybe not as comfortably as two could fit in much larger tubs in much larger bathrooms. By having the tub on legs and not sitting in a built-in box, the room is filled, but does not look cramped. I did two other things to create a more spacious feeling: I had the plumbing mounted to the wall and I chose not to have the usual hand spray which would need to be perched on something behind the tub.
